As per the guidelines of Tamil Nadu, Travelers who are arriving at Chennai MAA Airport from other countries at risk and are under compulsion to take RT-PCR test on arrival.Before exit from the Chennai Airport, you need to wait for the test report at the airport and have to be negative and asymptomatic before leaving the airport. Further, the travelers from Israel, China, Hong Kong, Botswana, Mauritius, Ghana, Tanzania, Mauritius, Zimbabwe, New Zealand, the UK, South Africa, Brazil, Singapore, and other European countries must undergo home-quarantine for 7 days and take an additional test on day 8. In case you are being tested positive at Chennai Airport, They will be shifted to isolation facility and will be treated as per the government’s health protocol.Moreover, Passengers in domestic flights will also be questioned to avail their travel history
Tamil Nadu’s rules for travelers from countries not at risk
Chennai International Airport has easy and reliable post-arrival policy for the one who are fully-vaccinated, COVID-negative and asymptomatic travelers from the countries who are not at risk. The post-arrival COVID-19 testing is not significant for fully-vaccinated travelers from a country that are not at risk, such as the UAE, Qatar, Australia, US, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Japan and South Korea. However, only 10% of the total passengers of every flight from a country not at risk will be recognized for random testing at Chennai Airport. You can leave the airport or take action for a connecting domestic flight after providing their swab samples.
It has been stated on December 27, that 7-day home quarantine is important for all international arrivals in Tamil Nadu. Despite, your travel origin is from the country that is not at risk still you have to home-quarantine yourself for 7 days.Further, If you take a connecting flight, on arrival at Chennai or Madurai Airport, to the final destination outside of Tamil Nadu, your home state/final destination’s regulations apply to you.
COVID-19 testing at Chennai MAA Airport
As per the guidelines of the government, International travelers who are traveling to Tamil Nadu should be registered on the State portal and can apply for TN e-pass. Having a TN e-pass is very important for you to exit Chennai International Airport or connect on domestic flight within the state. All the international airlines are instructed to check whether the Chennai bound passengers have registered on TN portal and have e-pass before onboarding them at the port of travel origin. At Chennai International Airport the lab charges are Rs 700 for regular RT-PCR test and deliver the report in 5-6 hours.The cost of quick RT-PCR test is Rs.3400 per traveler and the report is made available after an hour of sample collection
