Condolences Expressed To Nepal over Victims Of Plane Crash On Sunday

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates on Monday expressed condolences to the government and people of Nepal over the victims of a plane crash.

Tara Air plane crashed amid bad weather in Nepal. The wreckage of the plane, operated by Nepali carrier Tara Air, was recovered in Mustang district. The plane was on a 20-minute flight when it lost contact with air traffic control five minutes before it was due to land. The plane was crashed on Sunday morning, minutes after taking off from the tourist city of Pokhara.

The Canadian-built plane, flying from Pokhara to the popular tourist town Jomsom in central Nepal, was carrying 22 people. There were four Indians, two Germans and 13 Nepali passengers, besides a three-member Nepali crew.

“The last dead body has been recovered. Arranging to bring the remaining 12 dead bodies from the crash site to Kathmandu,” Nepal Army Spokesperson Brigadier General Narayan Silwal said on Tuesday morning.

The Nepalese government has said it has formed a panel to investigate the fatal crash.

Nepal has had a fraught record of aviation accidents, often due to its sudden weather changes and airstrips located in rocky terrains that are difficult to access. Thus, air safety concerns have been raised in Nepal having seen several tragedies over the years.
